Full house rewiring means removing your home's existing electrical wiring, outlets, switches, and often the panel itself, and replacing the whole system with modern wiring that meets current code. This isn't a repair or a patch job – it's a ground-up replacement of the electrical infrastructure running through your walls, ceilings, and floors, and it's one of the more involved projects a licensed electrician takes on, but it's often the only real fix for a home with genuinely outdated wiring.
Signs your home needs this include knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, both common in older homes and both considered outdated and often unsafe by today's standards, frequent breaker trips or blown fuses that don't trace back to one obvious cause, warm or discolored outlet covers and switch plates, a persistent burning smell with no clear source, flickering lights throughout the house rather than just one fixture, or simply a home that's 40 or more years old and has never had the wiring updated. Insurance companies sometimes flag older wiring types during inspections, which pushes this from optional to necessary.
We start with a full assessment of your existing electrical system, checking wiring type, panel condition, and code compliance throughout the home. Rewiring typically means running new wiring through walls, ceilings, and floors – sometimes with minimal wall damage using techniques experienced electricians rely on, sometimes requiring more opening up of walls depending on your home's construction. We replace outlets, switches, and fixtures as part of the process, upgrade the panel if it's not already adequate for the new system, and test every circuit before closing everything up. We coordinate with any drywall or patching work needed so you're not left with more disruption than necessary.
Cost depends heavily on your home's size, how accessible the walls and framing are, and how much of the existing system can be reused versus fully replaced. Homes in Rex, GA with finished basements, plaster walls, or multiple stories typically see higher costs due to the additional labor involved in accessing wiring throughout the structure.
